Yandina Shopping Centre Set for Smart Expansion By Mark Officer | Jaz Realty Yandina

The Yandina Shopping Centre—already a vital hub for locals in the Sunshine Coast hinterland—is set to become even more inviting, with a proposed expansion designed to enhance both convenience and functionality.

A minor change application has been submitted by Griffco Holdings Pty Ltd (via Project Urban), seeking Sunshine Coast Council approval to make a number of additions to the complex, located on Old Gympie Road. While the upgrades are considered “minor” in planning terms, they represent a thoughtful evolution of this community asset.

What’s Being Proposed?
The expansion includes several new features aimed at increasing services and enhancing the centre’s appeal:

A dog wash facility – Adding lifestyle value for the many pet owners in the area.

Two new commercial tenancies:
Tenancy 1 (90.6sqm) – Located at the eastern end of the centre, this will replace the current outdoor dining space, but a 46.3sqm new outdoor dining area is proposed adjacent to it, offering a fresh and covered seating experience.
Tenancy 2 (83.5sqm) – Proposed for the northern end, replacing an existing roofed dining area and seamlessly aligning with the current layout of the centre.

Enclosure of the existing loading dock – A move expected to improve aesthetics, functionality, and potentially reduce noise for nearby residents.

Anchored by a well-frequented 1000sqm IGA, the shopping centre has been a key part of Yandina since its initial approval in 2007 (with a gross floor area originally set at 2141sqm and later amended to 2000sqm). This next stage of development reflects ongoing confidence in the region’s steady growth and consumer demand.

Designed with Community and Scale in Mind

The application argues the expansion qualifies as a “minor change” under Queensland’s Planning Act. A supporting letter emphasizes that the upgrades maintain the existing scale and style of the shopping centre and do not significantly alter its appearance or bulk. The proposal was also backed by a traffic assessment from Q Traffic, which found that the changes would add just 15 extra vehicle movements in peak hour—considered negligible in terms of impact.

Importantly, the design also seeks to improve the legibility and presentation of the site—especially important given its prominent position at a key intersection often viewed as a “gateway” into Yandina.

What This Means for Yandina

From a real estate perspective, this proposal is a clear signal that Yandina is not just holding steady—it’s moving forward. The expansion of local infrastructure, particularly in commercial and lifestyle areas, adds to the suburb’s liveability and market appeal.

For homeowners, it enhances local amenities. For business owners, it opens the door to new opportunities. For buyers and investors, it underlines Yandina’s continued evolution from a quiet hinterland town to a well-equipped and connected community.

If you’re thinking of making your move in Yandina—whether buying, selling, or investing—now’s the time to take a closer look.
