Sunshine Coast set for unusually Warm Winter
The Sunshine Coast’s winter weather forecast could be one for the record books.
The Bureau of Meteorology stated that there is a good chance of unusually high temperatures from June to August.
The region’s average minimum temperature in winter is around 10 degrees Celsius, but there is a high chance that minimum temperatures this year will be a few degrees higher.
The region’s average maximum temperature in winter is around 21 degrees Celsius but there is a very high chance we could see well above 22 degrees.
The reason for the unusual temperature increases is that we have warm sea surface temperatures off the coast and the same with the air temperature.
After a wet autumn, including flooding on the Sunshine Coast, there could be above average winter rainfall, but it is likely to come at the end of the season.
It is forecast that we will see 60 to 65 percent of above average rainfall across the Sunshine Coast for the whole season and it is likely to become wetter as we move into August and September, although typically those two months are the driest of the year.
