A new chapter is taking shape in the heart of Nambour…

Demolition crews are already on site at the corner of Currie and Bury streets, where a major new apartment development is set to transform the site.

The proposed eight-storey precinct will feature 162 one-bedroom apartments, along with a food and drink outlet and shared facilities.

And new renders have now given us a glimpse of what the development could look like when it opens — potentially by 2028.

The project has been labelled rooming accommodation, with the apartments aimed at people who may not need or be able to afford a traditional house.

Developer Rod Constantinides says the apartments could provide housing for hospital and infrastructure workers, older residents wanting a lower-maintenance lifestyle, and young people leaving home.

He says having more people actually living in the heart of town could also bring benefits beyond housing — with more activity after hours, increased passive surveillance and more customers for local cafes and shops.

Love it or not, it’s another sign of how quickly the Sunshine Coast is changing.
