A lifelong love for yarn

Julia’s journey began when she was just a little girl, knitting and crocheting alongside a love for fashion design and fabric-making of all kinds. Opening Studio Yarn wasn’t something she had planned—it was an opportunity that came about quickly, but one she embraced wholeheartedly.

Cooran’s creative heart

When I asked Julia about her favourite part of running a business in Cooran, her answer was instant: the community.

Cooran is a vibrant, creative hub, she explained. Most of my customers come through word of mouth—locals who already knit or crochet, and others who’ve never tried it before. Watching them grow their skills over the past four years has been incredibly rewarding.

Julia’s vision for Studio Yarn is simple yet inspiring: to keep fostering creativity, growing her reach, and joining in with Cooran’s broader creative scene.

More than just a shop

Right next door to Studio Yarn is The Cart, which is co-owned by Julia and is a great and very popular little coffee shop featuring delightful pastries and great coffee.
Right now, Julia smiled, ladies are sitting outside knitting together—it’s a place for conversation, learning, and friendship.

Life lessons and love for the craft

Through her business journey, Julia has learned the importance of constantly evolving and adapting as a small business. But one thing remains steady—her love for what she does. It doesn’t feel like work. I love the people, I love the craft, and I love the community.

And when the workday ends? Julia unwinds by… You guessed it—knitting some more.

With dreams of one day moving to Cooran itself, Julia’s connection to this beautiful town runs deep. Her story is proof that when passion meets community, magic happens.
