Get ready to pass Go: Monopoly Sunshine Coast edition to be produced

The world’s most popular board game brand will soon have a Sunshine Coast version.

Monopoly Sunshine Coast Edition is set to be launched next year, after successful introductions at the Gold Coast and Gympie.

Board game publisher Winning Moves, under license from leading toy and game company Hasbro, will work with residents, Sunshine Coast Council and businesses to build a custom game that is expected to delight locals and visitors.

The board game could include beaches like Mooloolaba and rural areas like the Glass House Mountains.

There is some speculation that the re-opened Big Pineapple and favourite tourist destination the Eumundi Markets are among the candidates for the game’s most expensive property.

There are dozens of other possible locations that could feature.

Winning Moves representative Jaime-Lee de Niet said the game was called for.

“We’ve been getting requests for years to create a Sunshine Coast board, so it’s been on our radar for a long time,” she said.

“With these requests, we always tell people good things come to those who wait, and that certainly rings true for the upcoming Sunny Coast edition.

“It’s such a vast location with so many pockets and hidden gems.

“We can’t wait to work with locals to uncover all the best of the area and design a game that can be played by folks near and far who love the region.”

Locals and tourists of the Sunshine Coast can suggest their top properties from now until October 31, via the official Winning Moves Australia Facebook page or by emailing info@winningmoves.com.au.

Sunshine Coast News asked if Noosa sites would be included on the board. SCN was informed that Winning Moves would “consider everything” and would work with residents, councils and businesses to map out the locations that will be on the board.

If the tourist haven is included, famed Hastings Street could emerge as a top candidate.

Monopoly first hit shelves in 1935 with the racecar, thimble, boot, top hat and battleship among the original set of tokens while the Scottie dog and wheelbarrow were added in the early 1950s.

Although the brand has evolved over the past 89 years, the gameplay and iconography of the classic game has remained unchanged.

Today, Monopoly is the world’s favourite family game brand and is enjoyed by more than one billion players in 114 countries across the globe.
