๐ŸŒฑ Noosa Takes a Big Step Toward a Cup-Free Future โ˜•๐Ÿ’š

A massive move for sustainability in our region! Noosa councillors have officially endorsed funding to dive deeper into a voluntary end to single-use coffee cups across the shire.

With $5600 allocated to kickstart the Single-Use Coffee Cups Program, council will partner with Plastic Free Noosa to help local cafes and businesses transition to reusable cup systems. The goal? Build a culture of reuse thatโ€™s easy, affordable, and embraced by both businesses and coffee lovers.

This isnโ€™t just about reducing landfill โ€” even though Australians toss out more than 1.8 billion coffee cups every year. Itโ€™s about shifting everyday habits and leading by example.

โ˜• Whatโ€™s already happening?

โ€ข The first trial is underway at the Noosa Aquatic Centre cafรฉ.
โ€ข More council venues, including the Noosa Leisure Centre cafรฉ, are next in line.
โ€ข Two major local businesses have already expressed interest in going completely single-use cup free.
โ€ข Graphic design, stakeholder engagement, and rollout planning will be backed by Tourism Noosaโ€™s 2025โ€“26 budget.

Council staff say single-use cups might be a small part of the waste stream, but theyโ€™re one of the most recognisable. And that makes them powerful.

A small everyday choice โ€” like saying no to a disposable cup โ€” can spark bigger change across the community.

The message is clear: Noosa is serious about sustainability, and this initiative is another step in protecting our natural environment while promoting smarter, long-term choices.

Imagine a future where grabbing a coffee doesnโ€™t cost the earth. Noosa is one step closer. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

What do you think โ€” could you give up single-use coffee cups? โ˜•๐Ÿ‘‡
