π± Noosa Takes a Big Step Toward a Cup-Free Future βπ
A massive move for sustainability in our region! Noosa councillors have officially endorsed funding to dive deeper into a voluntary end to single-use coffee cups across the shire.
With $5600 allocated to kickstart the Single-Use Coffee Cups Program, council will partner with Plastic Free Noosa to help local cafes and businesses transition to reusable cup systems. The goal? Build a culture of reuse thatβs easy, affordable, and embraced by both businesses and coffee lovers.
This isnβt just about reducing landfill β even though Australians toss out more than 1.8 billion coffee cups every year. Itβs about shifting everyday habits and leading by example.
β Whatβs already happening?
β’ The first trial is underway at the Noosa Aquatic Centre cafΓ©.
β’ More council venues, including the Noosa Leisure Centre cafΓ©, are next in line.
β’ Two major local businesses have already expressed interest in going completely single-use cup free.
β’ Graphic design, stakeholder engagement, and rollout planning will be backed by Tourism Noosaβs 2025β26 budget.
Council staff say single-use cups might be a small part of the waste stream, but theyβre one of the most recognisable. And that makes them powerful.
A small everyday choice β like saying no to a disposable cup β can spark bigger change across the community.
The message is clear: Noosa is serious about sustainability, and this initiative is another step in protecting our natural environment while promoting smarter, long-term choices.
Imagine a future where grabbing a coffee doesnβt cost the earth. Noosa is one step closer. ππΏ
