🌱 Noosa Takes a Big Step Toward a Cup-Free Future ☕💚

A massive move for sustainability in our region! Noosa councillors have officially endorsed funding to dive deeper into a voluntary end to single-use coffee cups across the shire.

With $5600 allocated to kickstart the Single-Use Coffee Cups Program, council will partner with Plastic Free Noosa to help local cafes and businesses transition to reusable cup systems. The goal? Build a culture of reuse that’s easy, affordable, and embraced by both businesses and coffee lovers.

This isn’t just about reducing landfill — even though Australians toss out more than 1.8 billion coffee cups every year. It’s about shifting everyday habits and leading by example.

☕ What’s already happening?

• The first trial is underway at the Noosa Aquatic Centre café.
• More council venues, including the Noosa Leisure Centre café, are next in line.
• Two major local businesses have already expressed interest in going completely single-use cup free.
• Graphic design, stakeholder engagement, and rollout planning will be backed by Tourism Noosa’s 2025–26 budget.

Council staff say single-use cups might be a small part of the waste stream, but they’re one of the most recognisable. And that makes them powerful.
